Jantien
Jantien is an expert in sustainable interior design and the author of the book Interiors of the Future. She regularly speaks on this topic. For her, sustainability is not an abstract concept but something you feel in your home every day. How do you live in a space, now and ten years from now? That question is always at the center of her work. Her style is personal, sustainable, and timeless interiors that always feel right.
From idea to meaning
In 2013, Jantien founded her design studio. Alongside her work, she enjoyed creating objects from discarded materials. She saw beauty in reuse and gave materials a second life, full of character and a story. Not everything has to be new; by choosing consciously, you contribute to a better world. This philosophy also forms the foundation of her book Interiors of the Future, in which Jantien shares her ideas about sustainability, character, and reuse.
“For me, sustainability is not a trend, but the direction we need to move in.”
Light makes the difference
In her early years, Jantien primarily designed lighting and small furniture. It’s therefore no surprise that light still plays a central role in her designs. Light shapes the atmosphere, the feeling, and the sense of calm in a space. If the lighting isn’t right, an interior simply doesn’t feel complete. That’s why every design begins with careful consideration of how a space is illuminated at every moment of the day.
“When the light is right, everything falls into place.”
It starts with the basics
For Jantien, a good interior starts with a strong foundation: floors, walls, ceilings, windows, and lighting. From this sense of calm, she builds with materials and furniture that add character. In the By SIDDE studio in Eerbeek, Jantien styled two modular sofas: Molli and Liv. Molli feels warm, comfortable, and cozy, thanks to natural materials with their own character. Liv, on the other hand, is timeless and pure, like taking a peaceful walk through nature.
Conscious choices with By SIDDE.
Through her work, Jantien came into contact with By SIDDE. The brand’s sustainable approach aligns perfectly with her vision: furniture made in Europe, made to order, and modular models that can grow with you. Jantien therefore recommends consciously choosing a modular sofa, a piece that adapts to your life, not the other way around. This creates an interior that feels personal, with room to evolve.
Jantien’s Tips for a Sustainable Interior.
- Start with the basics: floors, walls, ceilings, and lighting determine everything.
- Think carefully about light; it can make or break the atmosphere in your home.
- Choose natural materials and furniture with character..
- Go for a modular sofa that evolves with your life.
- Save a little longer for items that truly make you happy.
- Create a mood board and dare to let go of what no longer fits.
Your home becomes not only beautiful but truly yours, today and in the future.
