Japandi living room with color: a look inside Dana's home

Rest, natural materials, and warm colors come together in Dana's living room. Her interior is a mix of Japandi, warm minimalism, and Scandinavian design. A calm foundation, with just enough color to keep it exciting.

Japandi with warmth

A living room where you can instantly switch off. That was the starting point for Dana when styling her interior. The living style is timeless, natural and calm, with influences from Japandi, warm minimalism, and Scandinavian design.

The 1970s home underwent a significant renovation. One thing was particularly important: all spaces needed to form a cohesive whole. For the living room design, Dana worked with mood boards. Pinterest and Instagram provided home inspiration. Existing furniture was kept where possible so that not everything had to be bought new.

"As soon as you step inside, the living room should immediately give you the feeling that you can switch off from work and the hustle and bustle of the day."

Natural colors

The foundation of the interior is calm, but certainly not colorless. The warm 'Mushroom' shade, from the sustainable brand Fairf, acts as the common thread. The color is combined with beige, dark oak, and light oak. A natural color palette that fits well with a Japandi interior.

Color is primarily reflected in furniture, art, and home decor. Organic shapes also play an important role. The rounded corners of the fireplace unit are echoed in the TV cabinet, the kitchen island, the dining table, and, of course, the sofa. This creates calm and cohesion in the living room.

"We consciously keep the base calm and natural. We introduce real color subtly through furniture, art, and home decor."

Moa as an eye-catcher

Dana had known By SIDDE for a long time via Instagram. When it was time for a new sofa, her eye fell on the Moa sofa. After testing it out, the choice of model was made quickly. The color required a bit more courage. Her previous sofa was white and featured an organic bouclé fabric. For the new seating area, Dana specifically chose a completely different color. Therefore, she looked closely at the combination with the other colors in the living room. The result is a designer sofa that brings warmth, but at the same time blends beautifully into the calm interior.

The sofa is now the ultimate place to relax. The warm look of Moa aligns with the natural color palette and makes the seating area a comfortable spot in the living room.

"The sofa exudes a tremendous amount of warmth and calm and matches our current color palette perfectly."

Dana's interior tips

Looking to redecorate your own living room? According to Dana, start with a mood board. Especially when you are in doubt about the layout of the room or different colors. By putting furniture, materials, and colors together beforehand, you will see more quickly if it all works together.

Additionally, try to visualize your interior as best as you can before making major choices. Online tools and AI can help with this, but viewing colors and furniture in person remains important. And perhaps the most important tip: take your time. Especially with a large purchase like a sofa, the decision doesn't have to be made in a single day.

"Create a mood board, try to visualize the design as much as possible beforehand, and above all, do not make hasty decisions."
